About Us

The Cloister is the University of Glasgow’s newest independent news publication. As the university’s first fully digital newspaper, we prioritise delivering news to students as it happens—accurate, timely, and accessible.

Founded in 2026 by students seeking a more immediate and modern way to report on the issues that shape university life, The Cloister was created to reflect the pace and seriousness of contemporary student journalism. We aim to provide clear, thoughtful coverage of campus news, student affairs, culture, and wider issues affecting our community.

Our approach is grounded in independence, editorial integrity, and a commitment to quality. We believe student journalism should not only inform, but also challenge, investigate, and contribute meaningfully to the intellectual life of the university.

While our focus remains on the student experience at the University of Glasgow, we recognise that important perspectives often extend beyond campus. Unlike many student publications, The Cloister selectively accepts contributions from outside the university where they offer relevant insight, expertise, or commentary that enriches student discourse.

The Cloister is built as a digital-first publication for a new generation of readers—responsive, rigorous, and forward-looking.
